Rangers get automatic First Citizens Cup eight spot

Rangers get automatic First Citizens Cup eight spotSt. Ann’s Rangers, previously carded to play in the qualifiers, are into the quarterfinals of the 2010 First Citizens Cup against defending champs Defence Force on October 1 following the demise of Tobago United.

Rangers were scheduled to play Saturday’s opening qualifier against Tobago United at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

But a decision by the TT Pro League Board of Directors on Thursday to expel the Tobagonians from the TT Pro League because of financial difficulties faced by the club, granted Rangers automatic placement into eight spot of the qualifiers against the Soldiers.

Meantime the second qualifier between recently crowned Lucozade Sport Goal Shield champs North East Stars and FC SouthEnd for seventh spot will kick off from 7pm on Saturday at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

After Round One of the Digicel Pro League Defence Force, Joe Public, W Connection, Ma Pau SC, San Juan Jabloteh and Caledonia AIA secured seeded positions one to six respectively.

The winner between Stars and SouthEnd will meet Joe Public on Friday 1 October in the quarterfinal round. Saturday 2 October quarterfinal double header will see W Connection take on Caledonia AIA and Ma Pau SC against San Juan Jabloteh.
