T&T U20s edge Guyana in CFU qualifier
Trinidad and Tobago U20 players had a winning start to their Caribbean Football Union Group 4 FIFA U20 World Cup qualifying on Wednesday against Guyana, 2-1, at the Victoria Park, Kingstown, St. Vincent.
W Connection players Jomal Williams and Adan Noel both found the back of the net for T&T, coached by interim Head Coach Ross Russell who has experience at various national levels and is also the Head Coach of TT Pro League outfit Defence Force FC.
Williams, a senior and U18 player with Connection, opened the scoring for T&T in the 10th minute, until Guyana’s Trayon Bobb, of Caledonia AIA, equalized in the 42nd minute.
Noel then netted what turned out the winner in the 52nd minute, as T&T held on for the slim victory.
T&T will next face second positioned Suriname on Friday and host country St. Vincent/Grenadines on Sunday. Suriname defeated St. Vincent in the second match on Wednesday night.
The group winners and the best three second placed teams from the four preliminary round groups will advance into the CFU final round in Jamaica in November.
