Connection names 29-man roster for CONCACAF Champions’ League
DIRECTV W Connection Head Coach and Technical Director Stuart Charles Fevrier released a 29-man roster on Tuesday ahead of the club’s first CONCACAF Champions League game on Thursday 2 August at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium against Xelaju MC of Guatemala from 8pm.
The 2011-12 Digicel Pro League Champions will be captained by goal keeper Jan-Michael Williams and includes veteran defender Elijah Joseph—the only remaining member from the squad which participated in Connection’s first ever CONCACAF Champions Cup game against Kansas City Wizards in 2001.
Fifteen year old midfielder Matthew Woo Ling, St. Lucian defender Kurt Federick and latest forward signing, Surinamese Stefano Rijssel, are all listed in this season’s Champions’ League squad.
While senior players Clyde Leon, Kern Cupid, Andrei Pacheco, Silvio Spann and Christian Viveros, all with previous Champions’ League experience, blends a balance in Fevrier’s squad.
The list continues with Trinidad and Tobago U23 players Shahdon Winchester, Joevin Jones, Leslie Joel Russell, Daneil Cryus and goalkeeper Andre Marchan.
However teenaged midfield talents Jomal Williams and Neil Benjamin Jr. have been excluded from the list due to their involvement with the T&T U20 team which is rounding off preparations for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) leg of qualifications which begins August 6 for the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2013.
