Rwanda target T&T for a friendly match

Rwanda target T&T for a friendly matchRwanda’s Amavubi Stars are likely to host Trinidad & Tobago in an international friendly later this year.
According to a report appearing in the New Times, Amavubi head coach Sellas Tetteh has expressed interest in playing against the Caribbean side. Rwanda is also looking at Zambia and Haiti as other options.

Trinidad & Tobago has organized a friendly match with Uganda on November 17 and Rwanda desires to take advantage of that fixture.

“Trinidad & Tobago play Uganda Cranes on November 17 so we are working out a way of bringing them over for a friendly game,” Tetteh said.

“We are looking at November 23 and the game being played at Amahoro Stadium if all goes well.”

Trinidad & Tobago, with a FIFA ranking of 76, holds the record of being the smallest nation (both in size and population) to ever qualify for the World Cup.

In 2006, it reached the first round of the global show piece.

According to Tetteh, Amavubi will use the match on November 23 to prepare for the CECAFA Challenge Cup slated for December in Tanzania, the Africa Nations Championships (2011 CHAN) set for February in Sudan as well as the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifiers which resume in March after next month’s Benin qualifier.

Rwanda, drawn in Group H, got their qualification campaign off to a wobbly start following a 3-0 defeat in Abidjan against African giants Ivory Coast and desperately need a good result against Benin’s squirrels. The tie, which is slated for October 9 will be played at Amahoro Stadium.
