Neil Benjamin Jr. has been drafted into a 19-man home-based Trinidad and Tobago squad to face Ecuador in an international friendly on Wednesday July 26 at the Estadio Banco Del Pacifico in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Benjamin, a 22-year-old speedy W Connection winger with four goals after six Pro League games this season, was a late addition to the Soca Warriors provisional squad after unattached ex-Philadelphia Union winger Keon Daniel and North East Stars winger Rundell Winchester were ruled out for possible selection through injury.

Keron Clarke, a surprise call-up to last week's provisional squad to as head coach Dennis Lawrence looks to widen his player pool ahead remaining FIFA World Cup 2018 Qualifiers later this year, also became unavailable for the Ecuador friendly "due to failure to obtain a passport in time to travel with the team" according to a TTFA press release.

The press release further stated: "Efforts were made up to late on Friday to have the passport expedited" for the FC Santa Rosa striker "but without success."

Lawrence, however, named his 19-man squad on Saturday and will have one more training session on Sunday (today) on home soil before departing on Monday for Ecuador, who are also using the friendly for South American World Cup Qualifying preparations.

Lawrence 19-man squad includes goalkeepers Marvin Phillip (Point Fortin Civic Centre) and Andre Marchan (Defence Force); defenders: Kevon Villaroel (North East Stars), Carlyle Mitchell (East Bengal FC), Triston Hodge (W Connection), Alvin Jones (W Connection), Carlos Edwards (Central FC), Maurice Ford (W Connection), Curtis Gonzales (Defence Force) and Jared London (Club Sando).

Midfielders Leston Paul (North East Stars), Nathaniel Garcia (Central FC), Nathan Lewis (San Juan Jabloteh), Neil Benjamin Jr. (W Connection), Sean De Silva (Central FC), Hughtun Hector (W Connection), and forwards Hashim Arcia (Defence Force), Tyrone Charles (Club Sando) and Willis Plaza (East Bengal FC).

W Connection's Isaiah Hudson, North East Stars goalkeeper Jabari Bryce and rising St. Ann's Rangers and Central FC defensive talents Shane Sandy and Taryk Sampson were among younger players who trained over the last six days under Lawrence but weren't selected for the Ecuador trip.

Mexico-based midfielder Jomal Williams, who represents Murcielagos FC, is awaiting his work permit renewal in Mexico and had become unavailable to Lawrence according to the TTFA.

“We’ve got in six sessions with the group in preparation for Wednesday’s match. The response from the boys has been good and we’ve come down to the final 19 that will travel on Monday,” Lawrence told TTFA Media on Saturday.

“It was also good to have had a few of the younger ones involved in the training as it would no doubt be valuable experience for them. Unfortunately we have lost two wingers, hence we’ve brought in young Neil Benjamin into the squad.

"We’ll have one final session in Guayaquil on Tuesday ahead of what I expect will be a solid test for us on Wednesday (against Ecuador)," ended the Trinidad and Tobago coach.
