Three years after expressing his interest in representing Trinidad and Tobago on the international stage, 24-year-old English-born midfielder John Bostock has been selected among a 22-man squad by “Soca Warriors”’ head coach Stephen Hart for back-to-back upcoming FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers against St. Vincent and the Grenadines on March 25 in Kingstown and March 29 in Port-of-Spain.

Bostock currently represents Belgian Pro League club Oud-Heverlee Leuven, and is a former Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder with stints at Brentford, Hull City, Sheffield Wednesday, Swindon Town and Toronto FC. He had represented England at U16, U17 and U19 levels.

Bostock, whose grandmother is Trinidadian, was eligible to represent England, T&T and Scotland.

Hart’s squad also includes the return of star midfielder Kevin Molino, after a lengthy spell away from the game due to injury, and Dutch-based 18-year-old Levi Garcia.

Hart told the TTFA media, “I think it’s exciting for the country that Molino is back. He played 90 minutes for his club (Orlando City) on Friday and that’s fantastic. Bostock is a player that I think a lot of people will like.  He gives an outside threat with his shooting and the dead ball situation. Levi has been doing well. He gives us a bit of penetration and I want to give him the experience of coming into the camp and fighting for a position because he knows what it is now to fight his way onto a team and try to get selected.”

The T&T squad, which will be captained by United Arab Emirates’ Al Jazira forward Kenwyne Jones, includes six players who were involved in Saturday’s 2-2 friendly international draw with Grenada. They are goalkeepers Marvin Phillip and Adrian Foncette, midfielder Sean De Silva and W Connection trio Daneil Cyrus, Jomal Williams and Shahdon Winchester.

Hart have also summoned the services of overseas-based players: Joevin Jones (Seattle Sounders / USA), Aubrey David (Deportivo Saprissa / Costa Rica), Sheldon Bateau (FC Krylia Sovetov / Russia), Mekeil Williams (Colorado Rapids / USA), Neveal Hackshaw (Charleston Battery / USA), Willis Plaza (Alianza / El Salvador), Andre Boucaud (Dagenham & Redbridge / England),Justin Hoyte (Dagenham & Redbridge / England), Khaleem Hyland (KVC Westerlo / Belgium), Yohance Marshall (Murcielagos FC / Mexico), John Bostock (OH Leuven / Belgium), Levi Garcia (AZ Alkmaar / Holland), Kevin Molino (Orlando City / USA) and Trevin Caesar (Orange County Blues / USA).

Missing from the squad due to injury are goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams, Cordell Cato, Radanfah Abu Bakr and Keron Cummings.

“I [try] to find the most balanced squad possible to go into the games,” said Hart. “We have some key players injured so I had to juggle the line-up and add one or two players that can fill in certain roles so hopefully we have the right balance and mind frame going into the [games].”

The “Soca Warriors” will engage in double sessions at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Monday and Tuesday before departing for Kingstown on Wednesday.

Tickets for the second-leg World Cup qualifier on March 29 against St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Trinidad at the Hasely Crawford Stadium are priced at $300 (covered stands) and $150 (uncovered stands).

Tickets are available at Sports and Games (nationwide), Kenny’s Sports (nationwide), Sportway (Ellerslie Plaza and Gulf City), Fan Zone (Centre City Mall, Chaguanas), Ramsingh’s Sportworld (Couva) and Heritage Sports (Scarborough, Tobago).
