Caledonia heats up with Montserrat signing

Julian Wade Caledonia forwardTwenty-three year old Montserrat national team forward Julian Wade and Trinidad and Tobago utility player Noel Williams are two new faces to look out for on the Caledonia AIA roster in the upcoming season.

The Morvant-Laventille club preparing for the 2013-2014 Concacaf Champions League, which begins next month away to 10-time Liga Mexico champion and last season’s runner-up Deportivo Toluca, as well as the domestic Digicel Pro League championship, is also likely to showcase reserve players Nical Stephens, Aaron Lester, Keiron Matthews, Shaquille Holder, Keron Bethelmy and Shaquille Phillip.

Veteran midfielder Stephan David will again lead the 2012-13 Pro League runners-up as captain and will have around him T&T internationals Densill Theobald, Jamal Gay and Aubrey David who were part of the ‘Soca Warriors’ quarterfinal round finish in the current 2013 Concacaf Gold Cup.

Noel Williams L Julian Wade R Caledonia AIAFormer T&T international Andre Toussaint, and Keyon Edwards and Nuru Abdullah Muhammad who have both recently donned the ‘Warriors’ shirt, are among others such as Akim Armstrong, Kareem Joseph, Abdallah Phillips, Nathan Lewis, Argentine midfielder Miguel Alejandro Romeo, Marcus Ambrose, Antiguan Akeem Thomas, and goalkeepers Glenroy Samuel and Grenadian Shemel Louison in the 2013-14 roster.

Newcomer Williams, a former San Juan Jabloteh player, joined Caledonia on loan from Police FC. The utility player can comfortably fit in at the back, wide midfield, or up front.

Meantime the relatively unknown Wade, a former Bath Estate FC player in Dominica, is an outright striker.

“He(Wade) has some speed, and is a goal-scorer with both feet,” said Caledonia coach Jerry Moe during Tuesday morning’s session at UTT Ground, O’Meara.

But Moe, the longstanding Caledonia coach/trainer, explained, “He(Wade) probably still has to work on the pace of the Pro League. So when it starts, it will be the real test because he hasn’t played a Pro League opponent yet. So far he has been doing well but we will get a better picture of him when the season starts.”

According to one team official, the 2012-13 season First Citizens Cup and FA Trophy winners—both titles defended—could add two more signings ahead of their opening Concacaf Champions League match against the two-time Concacaf Champions Cup winner, Deportivo Toluca.
